Timor Leste washed G1
Timor-Leste is a small island nation in Southeast Asia with
mountainous terrain, rich volcanic soils, and ideal conditions for
Arabica coffee. Coffee was introduced during the 19th century and has
since become the country’s main agricultural export. Production is
mostly carried out by smallholder farmers in remote highland regions, using traditional and
often organic methods. The island is also known as the birthplace of the Híbrido de Timor, a
natural hybrid that contributed to many of today’s rust-resistant Arabica varieties.
Cultivation Areas
Coffee grows across the central highlands of Timor-Leste, particularly in the districts of
Ermera, Ainaro, Liquiçá, and Manufahi, which together represent the heart of the country’s
specialty production. Farms are typically located above 1200 meters, with cool temperatures,
volcanic soils, and abundant shade trees supporting slow cherry maturation and consistent
cup quality.
